Build a new habit with me! Learn the 3 steps to successful self-care habit formation. It’s fun, simple, and easy to implement and can make a HUGE difference in your self-care practices.

Background

I began work with a new healer yesterday and he gave me a self-care exercise to begin.

And because habit-building is such a crucial piece of my self-care and healing, I thought I’d share my process with you. It’s simple, easy to implement right away, and sets you up for success.

1. Identify the new habit I want to build and get real clear on WHY.

This one is simple, I don’t want to experience pain. But actually making the statement “I am beginning this new habit so that I can eliminate pain” is powerful.

2. Get as specific as possible

This is huge! If I’m not clear on exactly what I’m implementing I can’t possibly expect adequate follow though. My plan is 4 times a day for one rep on each side for two weeks, then bump up to two reps.

3. Make a plan AND a system.

This is where I get even more specific and set myself up for success. I created the physical space where my new habit will take place, and got clear on exactly when I will do the new habit.

So here’s what it looks like in action:

What – build a new habit around a hip exercise
Why – Chung gave me a specific exercise to help my hip pain, and I want to eliminate my pain.
Where – in my dining room, I’ve set up a little station.
When – I made a plan for when exactly I will do the four times each day.

Let’s do one for you! What’s a new habit you’d like to build?
